This is an early 1840’s Kirschbaum Civil War era sword, noted by the heavier and slightly longer square spine.  The Kirschbaum knight’s head although worn, is visible at the ricasso.  Remnants of the sword knot are included.

Description

This is a Model M1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber Civil War sword made by Kirschbaum, also known as the “Wristbreaker”. The Kirschbaum knight’s head although worn, is visible at the ricasso as shown in the photo. The wire-wrapped leather handle is in excellent condition. Blade edge has a very small knick about 10″ in from the end, as shown in the photo. The sword knot is included in pieces. It is rare to find one of these original Civil War swords with the sword knot. Blade length is 36″ and overall length is 41.75″.  Measured weight is 2.36 lbs. No scabbard.
